Palm Beach Lakes Rams back on the practice field after pandemic shortened 2020 season

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Many of the student athletes on the Palm Beach Lakes football team have never experienced a normal football season.

The pandemic put things on hold for months last year before a shortened season played out.

That’s what will make this season so much more challenging for the still very young Rams team. That said, it’s extra satisfying being back at practice in early August. Last year at this time, the players had no idea if there’d be a season at all in 2020.

But the shortened season, and the adversity the players went through, could bode well this season.

“I had a really, really young team,” head coach Al Shipman recalled. “So we took out bumps and bruises last year. (Now) they’re learning how to transition from boys to men. We’re really excited, I think we’re going to have a really good season this year.”

“There’s a lot of expectations for me and my teammates,” senior linebacker Blake Hillard said. “I feel like we’ve got a lot to prove. We’ve got a lot to make up for from last year, and I’m excited for this season.”

The Rams will kick off the season Aug. 27 at home against Glades Central.
